31 Things I Have Learned So Far in My Life

THINGS I HAVE LEARNED SO FAR IN MY LIFE

HEY HONEYS! HAPPY FRIYAY!

TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY 🎂 and I’m still glowing like a youthful 24 years old mademoiselle 😉.

Since we are currently still on lockdown 😷 (or at least here where I am), you won’t get the chance to bring me to the FOUR SEASONS as planned (RELAX, it was for the brunch special! 🥂🍾). #BOOJIE

HERE ARE 31 THINGS I HAVE LEARNED IN MY LIFE SO FAR

1. TIME IS AS VALUABLE AS GOLD (or bitcoins)

Time flies! The older we get, the faster it flies lol. We can get a lot of things back in our lives however time is something we will never get back!

People will politely come to your house and rob you of your own time if you let them! But don’t! Balancing your precise time is a must.

We can even waste our own time: dwelling on the past, on our failures, worrying, being angry at things we can’t control, using our energy on the wrong people. Plus all of those stimulated stress, anxiety, and wrinkles and we don’t want that!

You are worthy and your time is valuable (morning affirmations). Here are some advices to save some time: take the time to reflect on what went wrong in the current or previous situation. Find the root of problems in your life. Identify your childhood traumas. Find solutions. Give yourself time to feel and heal. Find things you love to do. Enjoy the present.

You can get more money, but you cannot get more time.” – Jim Rohn

2. EDUCATION DOESN’T STOP WHEN YOU LEAVE SCHOOL

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t know…. about a lot of things.

Yes, we’ve learned a lot in school but it’s not comparable to what the lessons of life make us face and teach us. Life has multiple educational paths. Stay humble, be kind, and embrace wisdom! ✨✨✨

3. YOU GET TO CHOSE SOME PART OF YOUR FAMILY TREE

God has blessed me with some awesome intermediate family members and I’m grateful.

He also has put awesome friends in my path and I’m equally as grateful. Close friends are definitely part of the new restructure family tree because they are often closer to you than some family members… we won’t call out any names… 📣📣📣

4. CHANGE IS GROWTH

You can’t tell me you are the same person as you were 5 or 10 years ago. We experience things, stumble, and sometimes fall but yet we usually find a way to get up, we dust ourselves and transform ourselves into better individuals.

I have learned that all these life experiences change us. It changes our perspective and gives us a deeper understanding of things and life situations. It also makes us realize to never say never 😂 because you just NEVER know! Life is really funny.

I think deep down, as humans, we are naturally prone to flourish like flowers. We are destined to become better after hardship. Our DNA is made to adapt and evolve.

“No clarity, no change; no goals, no growth” – Brendon Burchard

5. WORRYING WON’T CHANGE THE SITUATION

As we get older, worry tries to become our best friend.

Just understanding that worry doesn’t change or make anything better can really help shift our energy in hard times.

Now, when I worry, I try to focus on all my blessings including all the opportunities that I’m blessed with. The things that we have always outweigh the things that we don’t have. Admit it!!

Let me help you… you woke up this morning, you’re healthy, you have internet and a digital device to read this awesome blog post 💕…

6. YOUR LIFE EXPERIENCES ARE PRUNING YOU

Our life and all the lessons are preparing us for something bigger. It’s molding us to become the person you’re supposed to be. Don’t resist it, be grateful for all the good and yes, the “so-called bad” too.

John 15:1-2 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.  He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”

7. YOU CAN’T GIVE FROM AN EMPTY CUP

Repeat the title again and let it sink in.

There’s so much you can give to others (time, love, money) and vice versa. The inner work is mostly on you. Look at yourself in the mirror, have the hard conversation, and take the actions that will fill your cup and bring you happiness.

There’s a reason why on the airplane during an emergency, the parent has to put his mask first before putting it on his/her child.

Take care of yourself. Chose you first.

8. YOUR EGO CAN BE YOUR WORST ENEMY

Identifying our ego can be so challenging and hard to face.

When we are able to identify and quiet down the egos, we will be able to live a simpler and peaceful life.

The distractions of life will affect us differently. We’ll choose to put our energy where it’s beneficial for our well-being.

9. SOME FRIENDS HAVE EXPIRY DATES … ⌛

As you grow and change so do some of your friends. The common values and interests become less common and it’s okay.

It’s important to surround yourself with like-minded people because just like the bible verse says:

1 Corinthians 15:33: “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.”

You catch what you’re close to (I’m not just talking about Covid-19). Your environment is one of the biggest factors that will shape the life you live.

“You Are The Average of the 5 People You Spend the Most Time With” – Jim Rohn

Another great verse:

Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

10. LISTEN TO YOUR GUT FEELING/GOD’S VOICE

Just listen to her/him/it, PERIOD! #INTUITION

They (the gut feeling) feel something that our flesh sometimes refuse to see or admit. It’s sometimes so hard to obey that little voice but in the end, we all wish we did listen… RIGHT!?

11. YOUR FLAWS SHOULDN’T STOP YOU, THEY SHOULD CHALLENGE YOU

I can testify to this! 🙋🏾

Starting this blog is me challenging my flaws. I’m not the greatest writer and I don’t have the best vocabulary yet I have so much to share with you guys.

It’s a tremendous challenge to put myself out there, on the world wide web, but so far, it’s made me realize so much about what I’m able to do, what I know, and how much potential I have ✨✨✨.

Whatever is stopping you…. STOP letting it stop you!! (Emphasis on STOP)

12. ANGER EQUALS PAIN

“Where there is anger there is always pain underneath.” Eckhart Tolle

Let this marinate in your brain fluid. Next time you can upset, ask yourself why? Why are you feeling this way? What are you really mad at? Pain has different ways to disguise itself.

Eckhart Tolle is a great author and The Power of Now is a great book to read by the way.

13. THERE’S GOOD IN EVERY “BAD” SITUATIONS

Through bad and hard experiences give rise to a new you that will be able to face the next experience in a better and smarter way.

“There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time.” – Malcolm X

14. A LESSON UNLEARNED IS A LESSON REPEATED

To add to the previous point…

Sometimes it will take you a few repetitions to learn the lesson you need to master.

When I take the time to reflect on my mistakes, it’s funny how a lot of time, one mistake is somewhat similar to another one with just a different date stamp. Yes, it hurts!

Awareness is the first step.

15. VULNERABILITY IS NOT WEAKNESS

Brené Brown has changed my whole perspective on vulnerability.

If you haven’t seen her Ted Talk, watch it HERE!

It takes courage to be vulnerable, to open up and be real with your feelings.

This applies to forgiveness too. It’s not weakness. You have to be courageous, strong, and wise to forgive. You have to choose to become better rather than bitter.

16. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE

Well, well well… 🙄

Let’s just say, I haven’t acquired it fully yet. I’m still a work in progress… #DONTJUDGE

17. NOBODY CAN’T DO TO YOU WHAT YOU DON’T ALLOW

This is all about setting boundaries and teaching people how to treat and respect you.

Easy? Nope! But with time, you learn how to.

18. EVERY ACTION HAS AN CONSEQUENCE

Everything you do or don’t do still counts as a choice (well most of the time) and will affect your future.

Good or bad, you may not see or feel it right away but soon or later, you will..

For example, if we would have saved our money from our first job and invested it right away, we would have been millionaires by now, but oh well.

Also, don’t live with regrets.

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” Chinese proverb

19. BEFORE IT WAS A FEELING, IT WAS A THOUGHT

Ladies and gentlemen, that’s how it starts!!!

Don’t water the thoughts… don’t feed the thought… JUST DON’T!

20. YOUR WORTH LAY IN MY OWN HANDS

We are not our mistakes, we are not our traumas, we are not our parents, we are not what our family thinks of us, we are not what other random people on social media think we are…

Whatever you are {ENTER IT HERE}, kings 🤴🏾 and queens 👸🏾, YOU ARE WORTHY!

Say it loud and PROUD!

21. SOME DISTRACTIONS COMES DRESSED AS ATTRACTIONS

Sometimes what we thought was a blessing turned out to be a BIGGO life lesson! But we can laugh at it now!

22. PURPOSE IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION

In our 20’s and 30’s, we are in the race to this, let’s be real… UNKNOWN DESTINATION, instead of focusing on the present, being young and happy.

That’s because we haven’t’ realize that life is really a journey with different destinations, trips, rides, with a whole lot of detours and constructions (Montreal style constructions 😫). We need to learn how to embrace all of it.

Put your seat belt on and let’s enjoy the ride baby!

23. YOU CAN’T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT BUT YOU CAN EXPERIENCE WHAT YOU HAVE

One simple word…

GRATITUDE!

24. WHEN YOU LABEL YOURSELF, YOU LIMIT YOURSELF

Society loves to fit and squeeze us in a box. Thank God, our generation is cutting those danm boxes wide open.

Hi, my name is Jennifer, I love clothes and shoes and also love science…

yes I’m freaking awesome!!!

25. YOU LOSE 100% OF THE SHOT YOU DON’T TAKE

Don’t you HATE asking people for help or things? I do!

But sometimes you need the help, and if you don’t ask for it, you lose 100% of not getting the help you need. You can’t do everything by yourself! You gotta learn how to delegate certain things. It lifts some weights off your shoulders and makes your life a bit easier.

26. MY DISAPPOINTMENT ARE A RESULT OF UNMET EXPECTATIONS

I found it hard to invest your time, money, sweat, tears, and blood into a project or a relationship and have no expectations. Sometimes the expectations are what’s drives you in the first place.

I have to be honest, it’s still something I need to work on.

All I can do is be myself, do what’s right to me, and hope for the best. I leave it to God to bless me with what is mine whether it’s a job opportunity, starting a new project, or maintaining a friendship.

How do you deal with your unmet expectations and disappointments?

27. LIFE IS FULL OF CHALLENGES

There is ongoing challenges, and it won’t stop because…⤵️⤵️⤵️

“The reward you get for overcoming your last challenge is your next challenge.” – T.D. Jakes

28. SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO TAKE IT ONE STEP AT A TIME

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” –  Martin Luther King Jr.

As a professional overthinking that can create 7 different scenarios with 16 different endings to one small situation, taking it one step at a time has really help me in my tough periods. You can’t always know what’s next and to be honest, sometimes, the less you know the better.

Don’t let the details get in your way (of a project, business ideas, a new friendship), and don’t let the unknown scare you.

You can choose courage or you can choose comfort but you cannot choose both – Brené Brown

29. YOUR FEELINGS WILL SABOTAGE YOU

If you listen to them long enough, you’ll find yourself in the fetus position on your sofa, eating chips while watching Netflix…. for 4 days straight #LOCKDOWN #RONA

Don’t let your feelings take you away from the actions that you need to take or do to become and receive whatever you want in your life. Every action counts even the small ones! Look at Pareto’s Principle.

30. YOU HAVE TO ACCEPT WHAT YOU CAN’T CONTROL

Look, we all know this!

We all have read 1001 quotes on Instagram already.

Getting upset (or whatever other feelings) at something you can’t control is an unnecessary loss of energy.

I have learned to stay “in my feeling” for a small period of time and then find something that makes me happy or distract me because guess what, YOU CAN’T DO ANYTHING TO CHANGE IT! OH WAIT! WAIT! WAIT!

Maybe you can…

You can change your attitude towards it... #WISDOM 💥💥💥

31. GOD IS SOVEREIGN, HE IS GOOD, HE IS FOR YOU, HE IS FOR ME, HE’S ALWAYS FAITHFUL ✝️

Over the last few years, God has shown me his presence, his love, and his protection. He has a plan for me and I trust it. All I need to do is take the first step to receive the blessings that He has for me!

Life is just really getting started and if God blessed us with 50+ more years, it seems like there’s so much more to this life than what we have been expecting (see expectations 🤷🏾‍♀️).

Come wish me Happy Birthday on my Instagram, I’ll be waiting!!

Also like and comment if you enjoy this post and if it resonated with you.
